Lately, I have realized that in life, we are often driven by what we feel inside. Feelings that no one really knows about because we don’t share them and yet these feelings take charge of our thoughts. Then, our thoughts affect the way we act. I have been on a roller coaster ride for some time now, and feelings come and then there is a sense of being overwhelmed by it all.
One day it dawned on me, and I found myself asking these questions: who drives you? Who directs you? The way you feel? Based on your circumstance, or is it the Holy Spirit? Yes the Holy Spirit, the one gift Jesus has sent on earth after going back to Heaven. The person who reflects God’s thoughts, His feelings, and His heart all at once because He knows them. The comforter, the teacher, and the one who guides us in all truth.
Most times, we are on our own trying to figure it all out. Yet, these are the times that feelings surge from nowhere, dictating how we should feel about a situation. It is now easy to completely lose control of things. Often, the thoughts that we listen to are not true and the feelings that we get from them are negative.
But what if, instead of automatically listening to our thoughts and feelings, we decide consciously and intently to listen to the Holy Spirit who lives within us. after all, it is for this reason that He is there. To guide us in the things that are unknown to us and to direct us in the truth. For then, our hearts will be guarded and our feelings redirected.
This is my encouragement to us right now. When questions start filling our minds, doubts, and even assumptions about any situation that we may be going through at the moment, instead of relying on our thoughts to then affect the way that we feel, let’s consider the Holy Spirit. Let us prayerfully ask God for guidance and silence those thoughts as we desire to know God’s heart on the matter.
There are so much freedom and peace in knowing what God says about you right now. Embrace that as you let go of all the rest.
